In honor of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s birthday today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!) I thought I would post the picture from my encounter with this fantastic man at HitRECord at the Movies at the Vista Theater in 2011. He was SO CLOSE to me!!
Side note: After that epic night of awesomeness, we went to UCB and I actually spoke to BEN SCHWARTZ! How do nights like that happen? I’m still amazed! AHHHHH!

Estela’s Five Favorite Things of the Week
In an attempt to make sure I write more, I have decided to try to present my five favorite things of the week. The hope is that this will be done on a weekly basis. I totally stole this from Molls’ Five Favorite Things of the Week on HelloGiggles. Here it goes :)
1. HelloGiggles Presents: Overshare - Totally #1 on my list! HelloGiggles.com was created by three fabulous females: Zooey Deschanel, Molly McAleer, and Sophia Rossi. Last night, I got to experience the stories from many contributors/writers of HelloGiggles.com at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in L.A. (my home away from home). It was such a fantastic night!!! I didn’t think it was possible to love these people (who I don’t really know, but read all of there stuff constantly) more. I have a total crush on Edward Hansen and related to his story way too much. Also…could Ruby Karp be any better? I may be 17 years older than this fab female, but she totally gets me. haha. I totally relate to her, especially when she said, “if I’m mean to people I cry and when people are mean to me, I cry.” Seriously….story of my life! I can not wait for the next HelloGiggles Overshare! It can’t happen soon enough!
2. Val Emmich’s Aide Memoire - This album was officially released this Tuesday, October 11th. If you have not yet bought this, you should NOW! Val is an extremely talented musician and such an amazing guy! To see the behind-the-scenes making of “Aide Memoire” you can buy the book, Proof We Were Here, which you can save 15% using the promo code: “NEXTBOOK” by 10/31. As a contributor to his Kickstarter campaign to make this awesome album, I received an awesome package in the mail this week.
3. CONAN - I love Conan O’Brien. He will forever be my favorite ginger. He is hilarious and wonderful and he can do no wrong in my eyes. In addition, he’s the reason I get to see Andy Richter M-Th weekly. If you’ve seen Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop, then you have to love and respect this man even more. I didn’t know what to do when Conan was not on late-night television. That is where this man belongs. I love his show on TBS so much, but this last week’s guests have to be my absolute fave! It was like Team Coco went into my head and then immediately booked guests! I mean c’mon, Jillian Michaels, Will Arnett, Michael C. Hall, and Sarah Michelle Gellar! I was in late-night heaven!!!
*Kevin & Bean on KROQ should also get an honorable mention here, because they provided me with Jason Schwartzman, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Dr. Drew, and Robert Kirkman for my morning commute to work.
4. TV this week, especially Bored to Death, Happy Endings, and Community - I love TV…I really, really do! This week, Bored to Death returned to television and I am now able to get my weekly dose of JASON SCHWARTZMAN! Bored to Death makes me wish I could meet Jonathan Ames and hang out in New York. I am seriously contemplating my next trip to NY and dragging my sister along for a Bored to Death/Flight of the Conchords tour. She will not be pleased.
Happy Endings is another show you should be watching! It’s after Modern Family, so keep your TVs on people! Adam Pally plays Max on the show and this man is comedy gold! I’ve seen him with Hot Sauce and Death By Roo Roo at UCB and he is hilarious! This week, Megan Mullally guest starred on the show as Penny’s (Casey Wilson) mom. Priscyla said it best when she told me “Happy Endings just decided to take everything we could possibly love and put it in one show!” It definitely helps that Jackie Clarke, Gil Ozeri, and Hilary Winston are some of the brilliant writers for this show.
Now to COMMUNITY! I love this show…I obsess over it sometimes (and I’m not even close to being a super fan, cause Community fans are incredible!) Remedial Chaos Theory has exceeded all of my non-existent expectations! This episode is in my Top 10 episodes of any show ever! It was brilliant, genius, amazing, unbelievable! Check out some behind-the-scenes stuff on this episode here then WATCH it again and again! (I’ve watched it 3 times, seriously). Thank you, Dan Harmon & Megan Ganz for existing.
5. hitRECord’s Fall Formal - This was something I was looking forward to in last week’s 5 fave things. It happened on Monday and it was so incredible! As adults, we don’t get too many excuses to dress up and have a ball, so this was definitely enjoyable after a long Monday at work. I’ve been to HitRECord at the Movies (so fun!), so I knew this would be fantastic. The Fall Formal was an all-around fun, collaborative, creative extravaganza complete with tons of cool records, videos, pictures, live music (!!!!), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (absolutely adorable and charming), and I even got to see Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick-Harris, and Gary Oldman! If you are in NY, you must go to HitRECord on Halloween!

In honor of Molls’ Five Favorite Things of the Week, I’ve decided to present my own :) This photo shows my faves of this week.
1. GEEK GIRLS UNITE by Leslie Simon! Buy it, read it, LOVE IT! This book is by far my favorite thing this week! It’s fantastic…I’ve been carrying it around with me everywhere, even when I only get to read a page or two. It’s the best feeling to know there are so many fabulous females in the Geek Girls Guild! We WILL rule the world!
2. THE MUPPETS O.P.I. Collection: So many trips to Planet Beauty have left me unsatisfied, but it has finally happened! My boss Helen bought me “Divine Swine” and I got “Rainbow Connection” (which I am currently wearing), “Animal-istic,” and “Meep-Meep-Meep.” Who knew that nail polish inspired by The Muppets could bring such joy in my life?
3. PEOPLE AND THINGS by Jack’s Mannequin: On Tuesday, Jack’s Mannequin released People and Things. It has been the soundtrack of my week! You should definitely buy it! A few of the tracks that currently stand out in my mind are: No Man is an Island, Casting Lines, My Racing Thoughts, and People, Running.
4. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY’s Reunion Issue: There is not a single reunion in this issue that I wasn’t excited about! The cover alone was fantastic, but a whole page of Jonathan Taylor Thomas took me back to the times where I would buy (way too many) magazines purely for JTT pinups! Those were the days! Here’s a little sneak peak, but you should buy it yourself. I’m now on the lookout for “227” to be released on DVD and have decided to watch The Princess Bride at least twice in the next week and also re-read the book.
5. HitRECord’s FALL FORMAL: Tomorrow night, I will be attending HitRECord’s Fall Formal at the beautiful Orpheum Theatre in LA. I’m super excited about this! I will be accompanied by besties Monyca, Amanda, Priscyla, and my sister Vanessa. We all don’t know what to wear, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be fierce! (I just really wanted to use the word fierce). We have no idea what Joseph Gordon-Levitt has in store for us, but it’s gonna be GOOD! This one is kinda a two-fer, since I tried to show it on my iPod. This week, Steve Jobs, a visionary whose impact is hard to ignore, passed away. It was very sad news to hear and my thoughts go out to his loved ones. What I found to be so heartwarming was how so many people were touched by his passing. Too often we spend time focusing on the negative and not truly appreciating even the little things in life. I was very inspired by Steve Jobs and this speech.
Here was my first attempt at Estela’s Five Favorite Things of the Week. Hopefully (not likely), this will become something I do on a somewhat regular basis.

Last night, I experienced something awesome, which was HitRECord At the Movies! I wish I could describe what an amazing time I had, but the words escape me. I’ll be honest, I did too much experiencing, watching, and listening and too little recording :( But it was still a fantastic night that I will not soon forget. During the show, the topic of cinema and changing media inevitably came up. I’ve decided to share my opinion on Tumblr. I love “cinematic adventures.” I have always enjoyed going to a movie theater (big or small) and experiencing something with a room full of strangers. I enjoy the laughter we all share, the sighs, the surprises, the chance to experience a story from a different perspective. I love when we all walk out (usually towards the restrooms or the exits) voicing our opinions with our movie companions. It’s never as simple as “it was alright,” but instead, during that time we all become the greatest movie critics of all time. But that’s what I love about movies. I love the conversations people have, the sharing of ideas, and the connections we make. Call me old-fashioned, but I hope that movie theaters stay open forever! I always want the opportunity to leave my house and experience films with other people.
My most memorable experience at the movies was when I was much younger. My entire family packed up our Chevy Blazer and headed to the Drive-in (does anyone remember those?) We had tons of snacks, drinks, and family members. We went to see La Bamba. I remember my parents dancing outside of the car, the usual fights between siblings, because we all wanted to best spot to see, and of course the horrible sound system. This is still one of my most favorite memories.
